From the archives of Cyanide and Happiness
July 3, 2008
This just goes to show that some emo-things are funny things. There are a lot of funny things on the Cyanide and Happiness websit, or rather the website that hosts the Cyanide and Happiness web comic.
Let me start by giving my rough understanding of what it means to be emo. To be emo, means that you are in a perpetual state of sadness. The emotional state exhibits itself through observable behavior and choice of clothing. Some actually speak in hushed tones. Most just style their hair differently. I googled some sites that teach somebody how to dress and act emo.
One good point mentioned in the site is that in order to properly dress and act emo is that you have to be skinny. I find that several of the emo people in my city actually are skinny. This idea leads me to wonder what about the fat kids? Aren’t they emo as well? Doesn’t being fat actually serve as a breeding ground for being emo? Are fat kids not emo kids because they aren’t skinny? What if they lose weight? Are they automatically granted emo kid status? Or is it a choice separate from the decision to lose weight?
These are worthless musings that take up a good 30 minutes of my day. In addition to the countless minutes (hours) spent looking for something funny in the web.

Emo-ness! I don’t think its natural for people to be sad.

I guess that’s the thing with being emo. It becomes a “look” or a lifestyle with certain standards, something you create, not necessarily something you already are.
