I’m off to hunt me some wabbits!

October 5, 2008

It was my sister’s birthday today and having consumed more than my fair share of pasta, pizza and iced tea my girlfriend and I decided to go for a walk. Finding ourselves in Timezone at Trinoma, we decided to play some games. House of the Dead 4 only wasted our money. The zombies were just too many, too fast and too strong to survive.

Its a good thing we found Big Buck Hunter. The objective of the game is to bring down a bull, or a male example of the animal you’re hunting. We went a huntin’ for moose. It was very , very difficult at first. I find it hard to believe that virtual big game could not be brought down with a well-placed shot to the rump. What was needed was a shot to the head, to the leg or to the neck to bring it down with one shot. I never thought hunting would be this exasperating and fulfilling!

BLAM! *click* BLAM! Down goes the moose!

It’s like the real thing minus the recoil and the heat/cold and the mosquitoes and other discomforts. Also you just have to pay the charge the machine has to take instead of paying for the hunting license.

It feels really good to take down big game. I’ve never shot at a live animal before and I don’t think I ever will while I’m alive. Several reasons come readily to mind: 1.) its expensive to hunt, you have to apply for a license etc.  2.)could you really shoot another creature for sport 3.) if I can’t eat it I’m not killing it 4.) I like my bed too much.

Though virtual hunting might pale in comparison to the thrill of the real hunt, I suggest we stick to the video game version. Its safer you won’t get gored, bitten, clawed or stomped by the creatures you should be hunting. Its cheaper, you don’t have to worry about gas, supplies, clothing etc. Its a lot more environmentally friendly and better on the conscience, I refuse to increase the number of animals killed on account of man’s activities. Its also obviously a waste of meat, who will eat moose or caribou or whatever? With all the meat the world is producing I don’t think killing a wild animal is absolutely necessary to stave off starvation.

Its ok to hunt. Just hunt using a light gun. Or shoot with a camera if you want it hardcore.
