Chapter III: Unemployment
October 28, 2008At 3 pm that day my world ended.
I hung my uniform out to dry. As I walked out of McDonald’s I gave it one last look like Lot’s wife.
Ronald still stood there, one hand welcoming the other praising his establishment and his teeth, oh his teeth, bared to make a semblance of a smile. Now he looked menacing, he was mocking me for my mistakes. It is over, his stare said, get the hell out and never show yourself.
And so I wandered the streets of Metro Manila, seeking solace in the alleys hoping against hope that I would find no reminder of Ronald’s existence. Yet I failed miserably, every corner I turned he stood, every other billboard showed his emblem looming like Big Brother. I was being watched, nay, I was being pursued. I know not why but he chased and chased. He was a foe not only proficient but also ruthless. He saw me beaten but he wanted me destroyed.
I walked around the streets now destitute. My hair had grown long, my stink insufferable, my misery unbearable. I shuffled about no longer remotely resembling the employee of the month for 12 months but now a broken man, insane and babbling about nuggets and fries and upsizing.
Months had passed since I was fired.
I decided to end it. So out on the streets of Metro Manila I sallied forth climbing on top of the Pink and Blue MMDA elevated walkway in the corner of North Avenue and EDSA. I was going to plunge into the stampeding traffic below and into my death.

Posted by domesticatedman at October 30, 2008, 8:21 pmOh crap, I thought this was a real life story of yours. -__-; Anyways, I don’t get why a McDo crew should commit suicide. Everyone deserves more than being a mcdo employee.
Posted by kei at November 1, 2008, 4:32 pmHaha Hi kei it’s a short story I made when I was in college. I’m trying to recreate it from scratch as I didn’t get my notebook back.
