Perhaps here, things will be different.

I’m guessing he got the last laugh.

November 29, 2008

Though its really, really far from us and some credit rating firms have rated the Philippines as having more than enough tools to cope with the financial crises (yes I think its an actual set of problems) there were voices in 2006 that said that there will be a problem in 2007 or 2008.

It just goes to show that you can’t fund a lifestyle out of air or mere words. The old people still have it right, save save save. Look at Japan today, after years of being mired in a less than exciting economic atmosphere Japanese firms are buying competitors left and right in order to penetrate into foreign markets or consolidate their hold on the current market. In any case what Japanese firms had was a lot of cash, cash not spent on buying securities, risky or not.

So we must save and produce more and not just borrow and consume more.

Infrastructure problems

November 28, 2008

Its a good how many weeks since I went back to school. We’re already into the first few hundred pages of readings in most of our subjects. Reading, studying, eating, drinking, sleeping, these are all good things but the daily commute really really takes a lot out of me.

Let’s face it there’s a problem with mass transit in Manila. MRT is operating at over capacity already. It will be a problem in the years to come. Government should invest in more infrastructure projects and it should change its corruption model.

The current corruption model makes 20-40% of the contract price go to the powers that be. This leaves 60% for entire project. Yes, the entire project. 60% will be used to finance a project that needs 100-110% of the contract price. At least this is what I’ve been hearing.

So a project is 60% done.

Compare this with the other models that I have heard of a contract is worth say P100 Million. That’s the actual cost of the project. The contract price will be at P120 Million. The price is set a little higher in order to make allowances for “shrinkage”. Therefore the project still gets P100 million or the full amount of what it will actually cost.

A friend forwarded this stuff to me I just managed to see it now! Nice flow if you just listen to the song. The video’s cool to. Some comments state that he’s from the ’70’s. I haven’t been around that long though.

Going Chrome

November 25, 2008

I’m starting to use google chrome now. It looks a lot less than mozilla firefox 3. I mean there’s more space to view stuff. In any case I don’t know if I can fully exploit chrome’s purported capabilities but I’ll keep you posted.

Wow

Sorry I haven’t been able to write for such a long time now. School’s been taking a lot out of me these past few weeks. In any case I’ll write again soon during the Christmas break I think my family’s going to go around the Philippines. I’ll bring a laptop just in case.

I’d like to learn a foreign language

I’d really like to learn a new foreign language.

I already have my sights set on Arabic. However, if there is no way to learn Arabic here in the Philippines then perhaps I’d have to abandon my dream.

I tried Chinese before and I sucked at it. I couldn’t learn the tones needed to properly speak Mandarin.

I also did Japanese before but I had a hard time remembering the characters. I think I’ll just relearn Japanses I mean the characters are all phonetic so its probably easier to pick up than having to learn stuff based on symbols.

Bugatti Veyron: Destroyed in UK. Lives Lost in the Philippines.

November 5, 2008

A Bugatti Veyron was destroyed recently in an accident here is the link  This I got from Kei’s blog here

In any event the Veyron was destroyed. It being a very expensive street legal vehicle at around USD 1 Million I think. I haven’t bothered checking. In any case it was recently bought by the owner and then was borrowed by his brother who crashed it into a Vauxhall Astra. Yep. I hope he had Comprehensive Insurance for his Veyron. Looks like the Bugatti crashed into the Vauxhall. That just sucks.

How they do burgers in other places.

November 4, 2008

travelerfolio.com’s post on Ramly Burgers!

From my recent meanderings on the net I found that Malaysia has Ramly burgers. It’s still a burger I know not what meat is used but its wrapped in egg and other stuff before being served just like any normal burger.

I find this innovative in the sense that you treat the burger like omelette, you throw in a hodgepodge of other ingredients and whip it into something good. I honestly can’t say the chances of having ramly burgers here in the Philippines. I think it will be good as a novelty item for a few months but we have to carve out a niche for it immediately. We’re so used to just meat, cheese and some onions but not to having a mishmash of goods come together in between two buns.

I want to do something like that. To go around the world capturing different images of meals that I had at that particular place. It is not the monuments or the panoramas that actually capture the essence of a foreign nation. In my opinion it is the food that accurately draws out the culture of the people. Food not only shows you the various cultural influences the area has, i.e. if its chinese, japanese, arab or what, it also shows how these various influences are taken in and made into their own. Food is not for mere sustenance any more, nor is it art. It is an entire story of being human told in a mouthful.

Chapter IV: The Crucible

I never thought that death would feel this peaceful.

After I closed my eyes and leapt off, I thought that I had already hit the ground and had died.

Instead I felt as if I was floating. It was as if I was borne above the nether by many supportive hands. I was at peace.

Peace? I thought that those who committed suicide went to hell? Hell couldn’t be this peaceful!

Then I felt as if I was being set on a surface. “Here it comes” I thought. Still nothing.
