Bugatti Veyron: Destroyed in UK. Lives Lost in the Philippines.

November 5, 2008

A Bugatti Veyron was destroyed recently in an accident here is the link  This I got from Kei’s blog here

In any event the Veyron was destroyed. It being a very expensive street legal vehicle at around USD 1 Million I think. I haven’t bothered checking. In any case it was recently bought by the owner and then was borrowed by his brother who crashed it into a Vauxhall Astra. Yep. I hope he had Comprehensive Insurance for his Veyron. Looks like the Bugatti crashed into the Vauxhall. That just sucks.

Now on to more serious matters. Though it seems that the Veyron is a really unfortunate and stupid incident I can’t help but think that we have not to look further away from home when we want to find grisly accidents. Recently a fellow Ateneo Law Student died in a car crash involving one bus and her vehicle. Apparently the authorities stated that it was a head-on collision with both vehicles moving but some witnesses say that the victim’s vehicle was not moving at all. It was on the shoulder of the proper lane, it was the bus that moved out of its lane and rammed the vehicle.

SEE THAT’S STUPID!

LOSS OF LIFE CAUSED BY UNEXPLAINABLE ACTS! The busses in Manila and near the provinces are gaining notoriety once again for their killing sprees.

Another death was caused previous to Ms. Ferrer’s death. This time it was a member of the Sarabia family who had to die because of several bus driver’s reckless imprudence. This time I think it was a Joanna Jesh bus that was trying to overtake another Joanna Jesh bus from the right lane. I’m guessing the driver didn’t want to brake even though he saw that the Mercedez being driven by Dr. Sarabia was clearly signaling that he was going to turn left. In any case the collision happened with the speed of the bus and the sheer mass destroying the Mercedez and igniting it.

A very violent death for a few more tickets sold.

The bus driver’s duty is to exercise extra-ordinary diligence (I think) in ferrying his passengers to and fro. Its just sick and barbaric that this still happens.

Likewise I think that once you exercise driving a vehicle as a profession the penalty for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide should be elevated to that of actual homicide. And you could add to that the fact that he was incompetent when he got his license and should be further prosecuted for misrepresenting himself in his license as being able to drive at a professional level.

I just can’t see why the public utility vehicle drivers are still being allowed to wreak havoc on the streets with the excuse of “Naghahanap buhay lang po” (I’m just trying to earn a living). I’m not calling for more laws just a stricter interpretation and implementation of existing ones.

Just my thoughts.
